Swimmer Reported Missing Off South Beach

According to a post from the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office, an apparent swimmer remains missing after entering the surf off South Beach early Friday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a call that a man had disappeared under the water. Deputies responded to the scene and requested assistance from additional agencies.

As of the latest update, the man has not been located. Sheriff Garrett Scott stated that Search and Rescue divers are checking areas of South Beach south of where the man entered the surf. No official determination regarding the man’s condition has been released.

The missing man is described as approximately 6 feet tall, weighing about 180 pounds, in his mid- to upper 30s, with shoulder-length red or sandy blond hair.

Agencies assisting in the ongoing search include the U.S. Coast Guard, Del Norte Search and Rescue, Smith River Fire, Gasquet Fire, the Yurok Tribe, California State Parks, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and members of the community.
