Pacific Seafood to Consolidate Operations at Crescent City Harbor
Vacated Space Presents New Opportunity for Fathom Seafood
by ROGER GITLIN
Pacific Seafood will be vacating one of its two leased sites at Citizens Dock, creating an opportunity for Fathom Seafood to expand into Del Norte County.
Each site will have its own hoist. Harbor officials characterize the move as a straightforward business decision by Pacific Seafood to streamline its local footprint while continuing to serve fishermen and coastal markets.
Preliminary discussions have begun with Fathom regarding the opportunity to occupy the vacant space and expand its presence in our region. Fathom’s operation focuses on live seafood markets by stepping up to distribute live seafood into higher-value markets.
Harbormaster Mike Rademaker shared his enthusiasm for providing new services and expanding the Harbor. “This is an opportunity to broaden access for Del Norte’s commercial fishing fleet and strengthen the diversity of seafood buyers operating at the Crescent City Harbor.” Rademaker continued, “We look forward to ongoing collaboration with Pacific Seafood while also exploring potential for Fathom Seafood.”
Later today, Wednesday, November 12, the Harbor Commission will consider a proposed lease for Fathom Seafood — and a censure measure against Commissioner Dan Schmidt.
Two additional special meetings are also scheduled for Wednesday:
- 12:00 PM: Closed session meeting to discuss potential lawsuits and RV park renovation negotiations
- 1:00 PM: Censure discussion on a commissioner
- 2:00 PM: Regular meeting
The meetings will be held at 101 Citizens Dock Road. The public is invited.
