White Returns to Lead Warrior Football Program He’s back.Nick White is the new Del Norte High head football coach, returning to the position he held from 2019 through 2022, when the Warriors dominated North Coast football.“He brings a level of professionalism,” Del Norte Athletic Director Taylor Duncan said of White. “He buys into our philosophy of education-based athletics.”White takes over for Darren LaFazio, who stepped down from the head coaching post because of family obligations. In his three-year tenure, LaFazio’s teams won two Big Five Conference championships, finishing with a 20-12 overall record, a .625 winning percentage.“Foz did a great job at the helm,” Duncan said. “He truly cares about the students.”LaFazio is expected to be on White’s staff as an assistant. He previously served as White’s defensive coordinator.White’s three years (not counting the abbreviated 2020 spring Covid season) was quite probably the greatest stretch in Del Norte football history. The Warriors won three Big Four Conference titles, the 2019 North Coast Section and Northern California championships, and finished as the NCS runner-up in 2021.In 2022, Del Norte was the only Northern California team competitive with eventual Nor-Cal champion Marin Catholic, falling 20-7 in the NCS semifinals. Marin Catholic’s average of victory in all other Northern California games that season was 34 points. After compiling an overall record was 32-6, White stepped down after the 2022 season so he could watch his daughter play sports during her senior year.“I’ve missed coaching,” said White, now age 43. “I have a love for the game and a love for the kids.”Also expected back is White’s brother, Chris, who served as offensive coordinator. Nick White is currently working to fill out his coaching staff and pushing players to spend time training in the weight room.Expect the new Warriors to look a lot like the old Warriors, using a high-powered running attack that produced numerous 1,000-yard rushers, while passing enough to keep opponent defenses more than honest.“We are going to go with what has worked in previous years,” White said.
