Crescent City’s future is taking shape — and the public gets a front-row seat or visit https://ccdowntownplan.com/.

November 8, 2025 - The City will be offering the Downtown Specific Plan, giving the public a first look at the community-based vision for the future of downtown Crescent City on Thursday, November 13, at 5:30 PM at the Cultural Center.

The Design Concept Specific Plan focuses on creating a multi-purpose regional hub that keeps the building’s perimeter intact while incorporating visitor-facing services from Redwood National and State Parks, Redwood Parks Conservancy, and the Chamber of Commerce.

At its core, the plan envisions downtown as the “heart” of Crescent City — a place where community, culture, and commerce radiate outward.

Key features include a schematic design with new office and meeting room layouts, an entry plaza integrated with the Coastal Trail project, and a commitment to reflecting the heritage and history of the Tolowa people.

Design elements and goals:

  • Integrated hub: The project aims to bring several local organizations under one roof.
  • Building modifications: The design works within the existing perimeter of the building to create new spaces for information, retail, interpretive exhibits, and meeting rooms.
  • Schematic design: A complete layout developed from community feedback, market studies, and mobility analysis will be on display.
  • Community reflection: Built on public engagement and emphasizing the rich history of the Tolowa people.
  • Coastal Trail integration: The design links the Cultural Center and downtown with the broader Cultural Gateway and Beautification Project, connecting to the Coastal Trail, Waterfront Park, and nearby Transit Center.
  • Catalyst projects: Early-phase priorities will focus on several high-impact improvements to build early momentum for downtown revitalization.
  • Multi-purpose facility: Beyond its role as a visitor hub, the building will provide additional meeting space and serve as a shared community venue.

Community input — and your presence — are welcome and encouraged at the Cultural Center.

As I’ve said before, it’s about time the people who live here have a real say in the city that’s being built for us. Show up, speak up, and let’s make Crescent City ours.
