Doug LaMalfa: IN MEMORIAM (1960–2026)
By Roger Gitlin
Republicans took a sharp jolt to the jaw with the unexpected death of seven-term Congressman Doug LaMalfa, 65. LaMalfa was a giant among conservatives in the House. He will not be easily replaced. The Republican Party cannot afford to lose any additional seats if it hopes to maintain the razor-thin majority it holds going into the off-year House elections.
The prevailing question is: who’s next to step up and run for this vital Republican historical stronghold seat in the North State?
Regrettably, Del Norters have zero hope under the helm of Jared Huffman, who is firmly entrenched in House District CA-2. This was evident as far back as Trump’s 2017 inauguration, when Democrat Huffman loudly and demonstratively boycotted President Trump’s inauguration.
Even more critical, majority conservative voters must organize early and rally behind the closest look-alike successor to Doug LaMalfa in the upcoming special election, which could be announced as early as the first Tuesday in June. The winner of that election will be determined in a contest called by the Governor, with candidates from both parties vying for the seat.
Governor Newsom’s gerrymandering efforts remain mired in the courts. Even if those efforts are successful, redistricting changes across the Golden State will not take effect until the 2028 national elections, even if ultimately approved by the Supreme Court.
The preferred candidates for the LaMalfa seat are:
- Heather Hadwick (R), CA-1 State Assembly Member
- Megan Dahle (R), CA-1 California State Senator
Either of these two would unequivocally support the President’s agenda.
