Deputies Arrest Convicted Sex Offender After Contacting Local Juvenile: A Wake-Up Call for Del Norte Parents

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jonathan Brandon Gokey, a previously convicted sex offender, after he admitted to communicating with a local juvenile girl for the purpose of meeting for sex. Deputies served a warrant at a Crescent City motel, where Gokey was taken into custody and a pile of electronic devices was seized.

This arrest should grab the attention of every Del Norte parent.

Predators are here in Del Norte — they’re on phones, apps, and social media platforms our children use every day. And yes, they are targeting kids right here in our small community.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder for parents to be aware of who is communicating with their children. That reminder cannot be overstated:

Know what apps are on your child’s phone. Know who they talk to. Look. Ask. Verify.
Silence and assumptions are a predator’s best friend.

Thanks to swift action by Sheriff Garrett Scott and his deputies, another threat has been stopped. But as this case shows, vigilance from parents and the community remains absolutely essential.
