City Passes Ordinance on Alternate Posting of Legal Notices
Tuesday, October 21, 2025 - At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Councilor Candace Tinkler shared her opinion and vote to support adopting an alternate ordinance for the posting of public notices. Councilor Tinkler called the ordinance “very prudent and common, in the event of the absence of a newspaper of record.” In the absence of a newspaper of record that is published regularly, the alternate sites would be the Flynn Center, the Library, and City Hall.
Public speaker Daniel Schmidt, the new owner of The Triplicate, objected to Ordinance 858, which adds Section 1.04.080 to the Crescent City Municipal Code.
The Council vote was unanimous.
In other business, the Council listened to Border Coast Airport Authority (BCRAA) Director Shawn Rosenfeld, who updated councilors on airport operations. Rosenfeld expressed his deep concern about the current government shutdown. He praised the 98 full- and part-time workers and TSA staff who were working without a paycheck. Should the shutdown continue past the first week of November, Advanced Air reported the carrier may be compelled to suspend its flights.
Rosenfeld shared the completion of repaving runway improvements over the summer months on Runway 18-36. The project included replacing LED lights and repainting taxiways. A 150x30 ft. sinkhole was discovered and repaired.
The $7.6 million project was funded 95 percent by the Federal Aviation Administration. BCRAA paid $363,000 as its share of the project. The airport also purchased an FAA-required fire pumper with a $599,000 grant; BCRAA's share of the grant was $28,545.
Yet another grant for $856,000 to install airport perimeter fencing preventing elk from accessing the runways was awarded, with work scheduled for next spring.
Councilors also discussed and approved moving forward with nominating a councilor to join the Golden State Risk Management Authority.
The Council meets again on Monday, November 3.
